The draft 2023-2024 Academic Calendar was presented for review and awareness
during the November 2, 2022, Board Meeting using the framework of the current 2022-
2023 Academic Calendar.
A calendar recommendation has been developed by administration using feedback
received from the Superintendent’s Professional Senate. The Board will take
action at the December 7, 2022, Board meeting.
The calendar must be reviewed to ensure sufficient time for student academic
preparedness on state assessments while balancing time for staff planning and
development activities, and periodic breaks aligned to the observance of federal
holidays or major community events. The timing of the first day of school to occur
later in the month of August remains a consistent consideration. Other key factors to consider:
- SCCPSS is a strategic waiver school system – flexibility is available in
school day/year title 20 requirements (180 days)
- Timing for the First Day of School
• Timing of Georgia Milestones Assessments
- Staff planning days
- St Patrick’s Day
- Federal Holidays
- Winter Break
- Thanksgiving Break
