Approximately
sixty young men were inducted into the M.A.L.E. Dreamer’s program at West
Chatham Middle School Tuesday night, October 16, 2018. The program that began in 2015 with three
counselors and around thirteen students, now has around thirteen Operation
Beacon-cleared volunteer counselors/mentors and more than thirty still on a
waiting list following the induction of the new class Tuesday night.
M.A.L.E.
Dreamers is a mentorship program for male students in 6th through 8th
grade at West Chatham Middle School. The program helps students with a
variety of things in life ranging from social and mental needs to academics and
focuses on engaging the students to excel in various aspects.
The
ceremony on Tuesday included inspirational selections of both poetry and music,
greetings from SCCPSS Superintendent Dr. Ann Levett and celebrity guest speaker
local radio and TV personality Kenya Cabine.
Inductees were given a certificate, recited an oath including aims
(character, integrity, scholarship, leadership, and citizenship), and received greetings
from former Middle School Dreamers now High School Dreamers.
The
induction ceremony is designed to highlight the Dreamers commitment to
fulfilling the above mentioned aims in the school setting as well as in the
community.
