On Tuesday, August 15th, 2023, district and school staff, as well as community leaders, gathered for a Demolition Ceremony at Bloomingdale Elementary School. During this ceremony, attendees celebrated the construction of the new ESPLOST-funded replacement facility and said farewell to the original building as the last wall was demolished.
The school has been under demolition for several weeks, but students and staff, current as well as former, and many families in the Bloomingdale area attended to say their final farewells to the school and to collect a keepsake brick from the site.
The new Bloomingdale Elementary School will be built on the site of the former building and will have all the enhancements that come with a new building. Opened in1963, Bloomingdale Elementary School began with just under 55,000 square feet. Replacing the 60-year-old facility will be a 150,641 square foot school that will house 64 classrooms, ranging from Pre-K to 5th grade.
Plans for the new facility include an Energy Lab and a STEM Lab, where our Scholars will explore the rewarding world of Science, Technology, Engineering and Math. Art and Music will also have well appointed spaces, and the Learning Commons will house a state-of-the-art broadcast studio and computer lab.
The Cafeteria will be equipped with a stage and high-quality audio-visual equipment, making it an ideal location for performances, meetings and gatherings. A gymnasium with retractable bleachers completes the plan.
