DeRenne Middle Scholar Named January Student of the Month

Published on: 2/1/2023

Our featured Student of the Month for January 2023  is 7th grader Mason Dempsey of DeRenne Middle School, who was nominated by Social Studies instructor, Mary Dobbin Mickey. Mrs. Mickey shares that this student makes teaching easy!  He is respectful, smart, and he comes to school prepared to work hard every day.  He also has impeccable manners!

With twenty-five years of teaching under her belt, Mrs. Mickey says she has taught a wide variety of students and this young man stands out because he pushes himself to excel. He works to become a better student each and every day. He makes good grades and encourages his peers along the way.

Mason has been selected to attend several PBIS events for positive behavior.  He enjoys reading in his spare time and says, “I enjoy making my mom proud. I would not want to disappoint her."

Thanks to our community business partners, Mason is taking home multiple gifts – gift cards from Members First Credit Union and The Horne Law Firm. Additionally, he will receive a meal voucher from Chicken Salad Chick, as well as Chicken Salad Chick merchandise, and a dozen cupcakes from J's Sweet Treats. Mason and students of his English/Language Arts class will receive printed copies of his favorite book Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry by Mildred D. Taylor from our sponsor E. Shaver Booksellers. Lastly, Mason will take home a portrait by Upscale Photography provided by Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools. Again, congratulations!
