Published on: 10/1/2019

On Monday, September 30, 2019, Board members, district officials, school staff and students gathered at Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts to raise the Flag of Learning and Liberty. The ceremony symbolizes the importance of quality education and represents teachers who contribute to the betterment of our community through stellar teaching practices.

The flag will fly over Garrison School for the Arts throughout this school year in honor of Kathy Whitney, the current Savannah-Chatham Teacher of the Year.  Mrs. Whitney teaches Gifted Students at Garrison K8. She is a graduate of Savannah High School and Armstrong Atlantic State University where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in English in 1992 and her master’s degree in Early Childhood Education in 2003.
