The Georgia Council on Economic Education (GCEE) has named Alex Seidensticker as its Featured Teacher for the month of March. Seidensticker, a teacher at the School of Liberal Studies at Savannah High School in Savannah, Georgia, is being recognized for his efforts to make economics and personal finance interesting subjects to study by connecting what he teaches in his classroom to the daily lives of his students.
"When I first started teaching Economics I relied greatly on the resources and workshops of the GCEE to ensure I was teaching at the appropriate level. Now, having taught Economics for several years, I find those same resources just as enlightening as during my first year of teaching Economics," said Mr. Seidensticker. "Regardless of the time spent in the class there is always more to learn and some of the great benefits of the GCEE are the wealth of resources available, their willingness and desire to share-out best practices in terms of resources and lessons, and their workshops. Even if you go to the same workshop multiple times you will continue to learn new material and each time you are in turn providing a benefit to every student that you teach."
The “Featured Teacher" is a monthly program at GCEE designed to spotlight and recognize those teachers who are using interactive and creative methods to teach economics and personal finance to their students. Winning teachers receive a $50 Amazon gift card and signed certificate to recognize their outstanding work.
Seidensticker continued, "I am very humbled to be recognized as a Featured Teacher, it is an honor. For me this honor means that I'm using those resources that will make an impact on my students. I want them to not just learn the standards, but to learn them and be able to leave with those life skills that are so integrated within our standards. I am grateful for my students' willingness to participate and the GCEE for providing those opportunities for not just myself, but for my students as well!"
