Islands High School Senior and Student-Athlete Veronica Sierzant was named the first three-time winner of the Hollis Stacy Award this year as the most versatile female high school athlete in Savannah. To be eligible for the award, which is voted on by local athletic directors and media, student athletes must compete in three sports during the school year.
This year in volleyball, Sierzant was selected as the Region 3-4A player of the year. She was also a star basketball player and a standout in track and field. In addition to her outstanding athletic accomplishments, Veronica maintained a 4.0 GPA and has signed to play volleyball at Syracuse next year.
The Hollis Stacy Award is named for Hollis Stacy, a Professional Golder who was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2012. Born and raised in Savannah, Stacy won the U.S. Girls' Junior three consecutive times - the only player to accomplish this feat - in 1969, 1970, and 1971. In 1970, she won the North and South Women's Amateur at Pinehurst and played for the 1972 United States Curtis Cup team. She became a member of the LPGA Tour in 1974, winning four major championships during her career.
