Our Student for the month of October is Mekhi White, a seventh grader at Myers Middle School. Mekhi is described as having “a friendly disposition and a talent for bringing the best out in people, especially his classmates."
Mekhi demonstrates leadership consistently and shows patience and compassion in the school building. His nominator said he exhibits strong academic performance in all subject areas. Last year, he began the year with mostly B and C averages and then as the year progressed, he improved his quarterly grades to all A's by the fourth quarter. His commitment to schoolwork is commendable and inspiring. He is the type of student that comes into the middle of a project or assignment and takes charge with assessing where the group is, brainstorming an action plan, and ensuring it's execution, according to his nominator. He has a friendly, outgoing personality and continually motivates other students to do their best. He identifies quarrels among peers and will jump in to help de-escalate the situation. He demonstrates leadership within the school, builds respectful relationships with students and adults, and displays adaptability and initiative in the classroom.
Mekhi participated in the Jazz Band Academy last year. He also shows responsibility by taking care of younger extended family members. When asked what motivates him to strive for academic success, he simply states, "my family."
Mekhi is taking home multiple gifts from our community partners, including a $50 gift card from Savannah Schools Federal Credit Union and Members First Credit Union. Mekhi and his class will receive printed copies of his favorite book sponsored by E. Shaver Booksellers. Lastly, Mekhi will take home a portrait by UpScale Photography provided by Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools. Congratulations to Mekhi, his family, and the faculty and staff of Myers Middle School.
