Savannah-Chatham County Public School classes resume for students VIRTUALLY on Tuesday, January 5, 2021. Teachers and other staff will return January 4. We hope our staff and families had an enjoyable winter break and that everyone will return to learn refreshed and ready for the second half of the school year!
The Spring semester will continue in the Phase III Expanded Hybrid Learning Plan, just as we finished the semester in December. Students who were selected for the hybrid plan for in-person learning will attend either Monday and Tuesday or Thursday and Friday depending upon the cohort in which they have been placed. If your child has been selected for hybrid learning and you aren't sure which days your child should attend, please contact your school for more information. The days that students are not in the school building, they will learn virtually. We'd also like to remind our families of attendance requirements for the school year. You can learn more about the way attendance is counted while students are learning virtually in the video at this link.
Wednesdays will continue to be Independent Learning Days – a day for students to catch up on work and reach out to their teachers for extra help. Teachers will be available to families via email or phone during school hours.
The District continues to watch the community COVID transmission rates and remains in close contact with officials from the Coastal Health District. The District's implementation and continuation of in-person learning is driven by data and if the time comes that Chatham County's spread of COVID increases rapidly, the district is prepared to take appropriate actions, up to and including a districtwide transition back to fully virtual learning. The district monitors Community Transmission Index, Percentage of Positive Tests, and Daily Case Rate per 100,000. Should cases in Chatham County continue to trend upward, per the November 4 Board action, the District will prepare for continued virtual learning for all students. All students will participate in e-learning/virtual learning January 5 – 8, as planned for in the revised calendar adopted at the August meeting of the Board of Education.
Beginning January 11, students who chose and are scheduled for In Person Expanded Hybrid learning model will return if the DPH indicators are favorable (not in the red). However, all students may be required to continue in virtual learning due to the increasing COVID transmission rates in our area. Additional updates will be provided regarding District operations no later than Wednesday, January 6 at 6:00pm. Parents should continue to monitor the District's website and social media for the most current information.
If a child develops COVID-19 symptoms, parents are asked to please keep him or her out of school and group activities, such as sports or play groups, and contact the child's healthcare provider as soon as possible. The latest guidance on quarantine protocols for people with no symptoms from the Department of Public Health is available on SCCPSS.com. Just click on the “Latest News" button and you'll find it near the top of the page.
