On Wednesday, August 31, 2022, a ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the New Hampstead K8 School seven and a half months after the new facility opened for classes. Students first moved into the school on January 18th of this year. The new K-8 facility is connected to New Hampstead High School by a walking path intended to create a campus-like atmosphere for the students, faculty, and surrounding neighborhood.
The new school was built with an ESPLOST-funded budget of $42,500,000. It houses 93 classrooms that can accommodate 1500 students. The school is located in one of the fastest growing areas of Chatham County. New Hampstead K8 students were rezoned from other schools in the western part of the county with the majority coming from Godley Station K8 which was above capacity.
