SAA Students Receive Recognition for High Performance on National Spanish Exam

Published on: 5/20/2022

Thirty-three students from Savannah Arts Academy recently completed the National Spanish Exam with 20 students earning a certificate and eight earning medals for exemplary performance.

The National Spanish Examinations (NSE) are a motivational contest to recognize student achievement and proficiency in the study of Spanish. In addition to the contest, these examinations are online, standardized assessment tools for Grades 6-12 that measure content standards (vocabulary and grammar) and performance standards (reading and listening comprehension).

At the National level, students receive medal placement (gold, silver, bronze, honorable mention) based on their scores and are eligible to apply for several types of scholarships.

Teachers receive individual reports for each student disaggregating data in various ways so that teachers can identify strengths and weaknesses of individual students for specific standards, measurement categories, and learner outcomes; show growth from one year to the next; and/or report other variables as needed.

According to the National Director of the NSE . “Attaining a medal or honourable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious, because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with over 146,000 students participating in 2022."  The test includes segments on listening, reading, grammar and vocabulary.  The eight students earning a medal are

Gold – Scored higher than 95%

Yiming Low - Level 1

Lucca Radosavljevic – Level 4

Silver – Scored higher than 85%

Chase Harrison – Level 1

Bronze – Scored higher than 75%

Abigail Gregory – Level 1

Kayla Scarlet – Level 1

Freya Thomsen – Level 4

Patricia Inga – Level 4

SAA Spanish Language Instructor Ana Zurita says her students worked hard for this prestigious acknowledgement and she is very proud of them!
