Georgia's Pre-K Week is October 3 – 7, 2022, and emphasizes the importance of quality early childhood education by providing opportunities for leaders to engage with Pre-K classrooms in local communities. Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools kicked off the celebration of Georgia Pre-K Week at the Little Acorn Academy at Gould Elementary School. The Little Acorn Academy is a new program made possible by the Equity In Education grant from Georgia Power. SCCPSS is using the grant to implement a grade K through 12 STEM/STEAM track, enhance early childhood learning, and address barriers that impede postsecondary and/or career success. The Little Acorn Academy is one of those initiatives. We heard from our littlest scholars with a rousing rendition of "A Baby Bumble Bee."
For the past 30 years, Georgia's nationally recognized Pre-K Program has provided quality early education to the state's youngest learners. Launched in 1992 as a pilot program serving 750 four year olds, the lottery-funded Georgia Pre-K Program has laid a solid foundation for academic excellence and future success in the lives of approximately 2 million children.
In addition, celebrity readers throughout the community have volunteered to read to Pre-K classes this week. See all the photos in this album.
