Published on: 12/17/2019

The Savannah-Chatham County Public School System has been named a recipient of the GSBA Inaugural Leading Edge Award for 2019.  The Georgia School Board Association developed the award to recognize school districts that are demonstrating innovative practices and programs by governance teams, ensuring students are competitive in an ever-changing global market.

School districts throughout the state were invited to apply highlighting work in one of the eight components of the Georgia Vision Project.  Our district applied in the Early Learning and Student Success component, highlighting the creation of the new Early Learning Center at Henderson E. Formey, Jr. School with family services available for all, the success of the Early Learning Center at Port Wentworth Elementary and the new “Zoo School” Pre-K class located at Oatland Island Wildlife Center.

The GSBA recognized these efforts as a unique achievement in innovative design and implementation of projects and programs that are having a significant positive impact on student’s achievement and engagement.
