SCCPSS Urges Parents to Fill Out Meal Application Form Before the Start of School as Federal Waivers Expire

Published on: 6/2/2022

SCCPSS is urging families to take action this summer to ensure their students continue to receive a free or reduced lunch when school resumes in August.  Schools have been able to offer breakfast and lunch at no charge to students during the last two school years. This was made possible thanks to the generous support of the U.S. Department of Agriculture during the pandemic reimbursing schools for meals served to students, regardless of their income.

At this time, there is no plan for that support to continue into the next school year.  For the school year 2022-2023, Savannah Chatham County Public Schools will continue to serve free breakfast for all students, but is urging all families to complete and submit a Free and Reduced Meal Application starting July 1, 2022, if you believe your student(s) may be eligible. The application can also be completed online at this link: myschoolapps.com starting Friday, July 1, 2022.

If you prefer a paper application, they will be available at the Applications center located at 3609 Hopkins Street starting tomorrow.  There will also be a secured after hours drop box located at this site.  Although the district is closed the week of July 4th thru 8th, the secured drop box will be checked daily by staff if you elect to fill out a paper application and drop it in the box at that location.
