Published on: 5/12/2020

Six SCCPSS seniors and one junior have been named Southeast Georgia Region Winners for Positive Athlete Geprgia.  The organization celebrates young athletes who have overcome difficult circumstances, given back to their school and communities in a significant way, or just have an infectious positive attitude that makes everyone around them a better person.  Athletes are celebrated with awards, corporate sponsored scholarships and unique opportunities.

Over 5,000 student-athletes and coaches from over 420 high schools in Georgia were nominated this year, and only about 7% of those nominees were recognized as regional winners. The Regional Winners are now eligible to win one of Positive Athlete's state-wide awards and one of several college scholarships.   The State-wide award winners will be announced in early June.  The Scholarship winners will be announced in late May.  SCCPSS Regional Winners are listed below:

Mariah George – Savannah Early College – Girls Cross Country

James Dunbar, III – Woodville Tompkins High – Boys Track and Field

Cinsere Ward – Windsor Forest High – Wrestling

Cami Lowry – Savannah Arts Academy – Girl's Tennis

Allison Fisher – New Hampstead High – Girl's Alternative Sport
