In only the second year of competition for SCCPSS schools in the K-5 Georgia State Science Fair, six students from Heard Elementary School brought home first place honors in their respective categories. One of those students, third grader Oliver Duncan, won Best Overall in Show – the TOP K-5 Science Fair project in the state!

Oliver Duncan, 3rd grade, "Trampoline Science" - won first place honors in the elementary division, Best of Class for 3rd Grade, Best of Physical and Computational Sciences, and Best in Show.
Kaelyn DaCosta, 5th grade, "L.E.D. Light vs. Plant Light" - won first place honors in elementary division, Best of Class for 5th grade.
Brooke Blake, 3rd grade, "Elephant Toothpaste" - won first place honors in elementary division.
Evangeline Willis, 3rd grade, "Heat of the Cookie" - won first place honors in elementary division.
Mae Rose Ryan, 5th grade, "Leavening Agents in Cakes" - won first place honors in elementary division.
Anthony Edwards, 3rd grade, "Cold Soda Fast" - won first place honors in elementary division.
Heard Elementary K-5 STEAM Lab Teacher Angela Willis says, “These students put in a lot of extra work in an already difficult school year. To paint a clear picture: these students met with me on zoom, every Wednesday after school, for an hour or more. We worked from October through December. Sometimes, we met on Sunday evenings to get ready for major events like our class and judging presentations. I am very proud of their efforts!"
