Superintendent Ann Levett welcomed her colleagues from AASA, The School Superintendents Association, to Savannah for a convention of the executive directors of our state affiliate associations, the groups that represent superintendents within their respective states. Running the Store is the professional development conference for these state executives, and over 2.5 days, they covered myriad topics related to running a professional association. As part of this content, a campaign focused on supporting and serving superintendents called "Live Well. Lead Well" was announced. The kick off panel featured AASA president Paul Imhoff and Dr. Ann Levett, superintendent of Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools and past AASA executive committee member.
AASA advocates for equitable access for all students to the highest quality public education and develops and supports school system leaders. While the job of the superintendent has always been one of the hardest jobs in America, the challenges that have arisen since February of 2020 are unparalleled. From the pandemic to racial inequities to threats of violence during school board meetings and against school communities throughout the country, school system leaders need our support more than ever before. For the next 12 months, AASA will build on the “Live Well. Lead Well." campaign to support its members. The campaign will focus on three areas: Offering Hope, Showing/Sharing Appreciation and Offering Support.
