2021 Graduation Rate at 90.1%
At the Regular Meeting of the Board, a report on the district’s 4 year co-hort graduation rate for the 2020-21 School Year was presented. The SCCPSS rate of 90.1 is a new record for the district which has consistently improved the graduation rate since 2015.

Contract Approved with New Enmarket Arena for Class of 2022 Graduations
The Board approved a contract with Oak View Group Facilities, LLC for rental of facilities and services for Class of 2022 Graduations the week of May 22-27, 2022. The total estimated cost of the contract is $121,724. The 2022 Graduation Schedule was also presented:

THE WAY FORWARD 2026 Strategic Plan Update
At the Regular Meeting of the Board, a report on the District’s new Strategic Plan was presented. The plan was approved at the September 2021 Board Meeting. It was developed through months of meetings with Board members, District Staff and Community Members. TWF 2026 is the blueprint that will help guide the work of the School Board, Superintendent, administration, and the schools to achieve its overall mission and its defining statement, “One Team One Goal: Student Achievement.”

Charter School Annual Reports
At the February 2nd Board Meetings, Board members received annual updates from the Charter Schools. Tybee Maritime, Oglethorpe Charter, Savannah Classical and Coastal Empire Montessori all presented at the Informal Meeting. Suzie King Taylor’s presentation took place in the Formal Meeting following the school’s Quarterly Progress Report.

Good News Report
Students Helping Students Succeed Recognition
Savannah Arts Academy student Ava Dorminey was featured in US News and World Report last month for the group she helped found, Students Helping Students Succeed, during her junior year. Thirty-two students from nine different high schools in the area are part of SHSS. In the Fall, the group held a clean-up day at an area elementary school and conducted a holiday gift supply replenishment drive to distribute school supplies, art supplies and educational games.
Cookbook Contributors!
Fifteen elementary students who are budding gardeners and cooks were selected to be published in a new cookbook being produced by Center Parc Credit Union and the Savannah Urban Garden Alliance (SUGA), in partnership with four Savannah elementary schools: Brock, Butler, Hodge and Windsor Forest elementary schools. The cookbook documents the students’ vegetable garden experience at the participating schools.
Tybee MLK Day Winners
The Tybee MLK Human Rights Organization announced the winners of its annual speech contest for Chatham County students. From over 100 entries, judges selected: students from six of our schools as winners of the competition.

Name Proposed for the New Woodville Tompkins Gymnasium
A committee comprised of students, staff, alumni and community members considered four names for the new Woodville Tompkins Gymnasium. They voted unanimously to name the gym after Joe Turner and the name was read into the record for the first time at the February 2022 Regular Meeting. The name will be voted on at the March meeting of the Board of Education.

Port Wentworth Elementary Reconfiguration Report
At the Regular Meeting, a report was presented to the Board on the phasing out of the Port Wentworth Elementary facility and the proposed reconfiguration of attendance zones in the Western Chatham County that will affect students from Port Wentworth Elementary, Rice Creek School, Garden City Elementary and Mercer Middle.

Budget Amendment for Technology
The Technology Department applied for Emergency Connectivity Fund (ECF) - ECF222118234 & ECF202102622 (ERATE Eligible) to purchase chromebooks, laptops, and iPads, for students and staff and Wi-Fi hotspots for students to have internet access while they are home. Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) has awarded the Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools $4,177,800 for the equipment and services. The Board approved and amendment of the FY 2022 ERATE Eligible “ECF” budgeted revenues and expenditures of the funds.

The Board also approved the “Emergency Ratification Request” to purchase the expendable computer equipment and professional services from vendors Broadway Typewriter Company, Apple, Inc and T-Mobile USA, Inc at an estimated dollar amount of $4,123,952.00. Due to supply chain backlogs, four-plus months ratification was requested to meet established grant deadlines.

ESPLOST Updates
Budget Transfers
The Board approved several budget transfers within ESPLOST III. $3,350,000 from Largo-Tibet ES to the Contingency fund. Due to floodplain issues an addition is not feasible on the school. The Funds will be used to construct an addition to convert Pulaski to a K-8. In addition, $10,000,000 to the K-12 Multi-school from Contingency to provide funds for additional construction, FF&E, and technology costs. $12,000,000 to Pulaski ES from Contingency for a new classroom wing and PE facility required for the K-8 conversion project, and $5,000,000 to Savannah Arts Academy from Contingency to provide funds for additional construction, FF&E, and technology costs.
