National School Nurse Day

National Teacher Appreciation Week
The Board proclaimed May 8-12, 2023, as National Teacher Appreciation Week and asked that all citizens take time throughout the month of May to thank a teacher for their significant contributions. Through their valued work, they keep American democracy alive by laying the foundation for good citizenship and inspiring the thirst for knowledge. Teachers fill many roles, as listeners, explorers, role models, motivators, and mentors. Teachers leave a lasting influence on us all. Teachers make our schools and our community great.

Fund for Kronos System Upgrade Approved
Staff recommends an upgrade to the existing Kronos system utilizing the Omnia Contract 18221 awarded to Kronos Incorporated, A UKG Company (Lowell, Massachusetts). The upgrade to the Kronos system provides a cloud-based time and attendance solution and allows for integration with the newly implemented ERP HR/Payroll system MUNIS. The current version of the Kronos system will be at end-of-life in 2026. The upgrade will allow employees easier access to review their time worked. Total cost for the upgrade will be $643,750, this cost includes a one-time purchase of new/updated biometric timeclocks at a cost of $412,500.

Campus Police to Receive New Body Cameras
The Board approved a budget transfer from the General Fund (Fund 100) in the amount of $497,682 to purchase new Body Cameras for School Resource Officers. Campus Police plans to cover the funding through monies allotted for some staff positions that are currently vacant. Body Worn Cameras are pivotal in preventing and defending officers involved in preventing misuse of force, creating enhanced transparency and accountability, and strengthening community trust.

ESPLOST Updates
Budget Transfers Approved for LED Practice Field Lighting
Budget transfers were approved by the Board to pay for new LED Practice Field lighting at four SCCPSS high schools as part of ESPLOST IV. The schools that will receive the new lighting are Savannah High, Beach High, Islands High, and Johnson High.

Garden City Athletic Complex Demolition Contract Approved
The Board approved the award of Bid C23-15 (ESPLOST) Demolition of Garden City Athletic Complex and Groves Annex Building to Trinity Industrial Services, LLC in the amount of $353,675.00.

Middle School Professional Design Renovation Contracts Approved
The Board approved a contract with Greenline Architecture for design services for the West Chatham Middle School Renovation project for a total design professional fee of $385,000.00.

Contractor Awarded Bid for Godley Station Additions
The Board approved the award of Bid C23-18 (ESPLOST IV) Godley Station K-8 Additions to TQ Constructors, Inc. in the amount of $13,156,901.00. Additional classrooms will be built at the school that are expected to be ready for occupancy by the start of the 2024-25 SY.
Funds for Bi-Directional Amplification Systems Approved
The Board approved the award of Bid C23-16 (ESPLOST) Bi-Directional Amplification (BDA) and Distributed Antenna System (DAS) Installation to the firm of Southeastern System Technology in the amount of $2,582,003.00. The systems will be installed at seven (7) elementary schools, five (5) K-8/middle schools and two (2) high schools.

Personnel Moves
A number of personnel moves were approved by the Board at the May meeting. Congratulations to the following:
Sharonda Murrell has been named Interim Associate Superintendent of Secondary Schools.
Derrick Butler has been named Interim Senior Officer of Secondary Schools
Kimberly Newman has been named Interim Director of Professional Learning – Employee Training and Leadership Development
Samantha Williams has been named Interim Principal of Hodge Elementary School.
Christa Smalls has been named Interim Principal of Heard Elementary.
Lydia Taylor has been named Interim Principal of the STEM Academy at Bartlett Middle.
Those changes are effective July 10th. In addition, two new Co-Directors of the District's School Nutrition Program were named in April.
